Boston United v Gateshead FC Preview & Betting Odds

Gateshead FC overcame the odds to defeat Brackley Town on Sunday to book a place in the Vanarama National League North play-off semi-final.

Gateshead had beaten Brackley Town 2-0 earlier in the season but went into Sunday’s playoff game as underdogs with bookies pricing Mike Williamson’s side at odds of over 2/1.

After a relatively quiet first half, Gateshead’s Jake Cooper found the net with a back-post header in the 5th minute of first-half injury time. However, Gateshead’s lead lasted only the length of half time after Brackley Town’s Shane Byrne scored a spectacular goal from the half-way line straight from kick-off.

After the second half produced no goals, the match would be decided on penalties and it despite Nicky Deverdics and Jordan Preston failing to convert from the spot, it was Gateshead who emerged triumphant and booked their spot in the semi-finals.

In the next round, which is due to be played on Saturday 25th July at 17:30, Gateshead will meet Boston United who finished in 4th position in the league, collecting six points more than Gateshead, although having played an extra game before league matches were suspended back in March.

Gateshead have met Boston United three times previously over the years and have won on all occasions. The last two meetings between the two sides have resulted in 3-0 victories for Gateshead but despite this, they again go into Saturday’s match as underdogs.

At the time of writing, online bookmaker Betfred are offering the best odds on a Gateshead win at 19/10 whereas Boston United can be backed at odds of 5/4 with Betfred and several other bookies.
