Two of the UK’s biggest bookmakers have recently announced major sponsorship deals that will give the betting brands huge exposure to racing punters across the country.
It was announced on Tuesday 19th July 2022 that UK bookmaker Coral agreed a deal to become the official fixed-odds betting partner of the Qatar Goodwood Festival. On the same day, rival bookie SkyBet agreed a deal with York Racecourse to become the main sponsor of 12 races at the course that take place throughout August.
Coral, a betting brand owned by Entain and established almost 100 years ago, will sponsor 10 races at Goodwood Racecourse, including the Coral Golden Mile on Friday 29th July and the Coral Stewards Cup on Saturday 30th July, throughout the five-day Goodwood Festival which gets underway this coming Tuesday. The sponsorship will run for three years and they’ll replace Unibet who held the rights previously from 2019 to 2001.
Coral weren’t the only betting brand to strike a major agreement this week as online bookmaker SkyBet announced that they have renewed their deal with York Racecourse until 2028.
The deal with the Leeds-based online bookmaker is reportedly worth an estimated £2.7 million a year and will see them sponsor 12 races across the four racedays at York Racecourse in August along with the entire card on the Sky Bet York Stakes day in July and two Sky Bet Race to the Ebor contests.
The total prize fund of £2.7 million is up 23% from the agreement made in 2018 which means that the Sky Bet Ebor will remain as Britain’s richest flat handicap and the Group 2 Sky Bet City of York Stakes becomes the richest racecourse funded Group 2 in Britain.
In addition, the Sky Bet Lowther on the Thursday will now be Britain’s richest juvenile fillies Group 2 with a prize fund of £250,000 along with the Sky Bet Nursery on the Wednesday becoming Britain’s richest race of its type with a prize fund of £100,000.
The two partners will continue to work together on the already established and successful Sky Bet Ebor Community Fund which will have a pool of £33,000 to donate to local charitable causes.
Local charities and community groups nominated projects and good causes for the community fund with a total of 22 making it through to the final stages.
Each of the 22 will be assigned a runner in the Sky Bet Ebor taking place on Saturday 20th August with the cause paired with the winning horse receiving a donation of £20,000. Donations will also be made to those linked with placed runners and the rest of the field.
