The brand new Each Way Edge at Betfair is an incredible feature for people who bet each way on horse racing. This revolutionary idea is something you won’t find at any other horse racing bookie, but it is set to change the way you bet forever.
In this article we’ll show you how Betfair Each way edge works, and how to use it to get extra places every time you bet on UK & Irish racing. This really is something punters have been crying out for…
Betfair have created their new Each Way Edge feature to give you ultimate control over your each way bets. You can now alter the terms of your each way bet before you place it. You have the option of adding extra places in return for a small reduction in the odds, or you could choose fewer places and get a small increase in the odds. Whichever way you want to do it, you are in complete control. And you can do it all quickly and easily from within your bet slip!
Each Way Edge can be a useful feature if there are some strong horses in the race and you think that your selection has a chance of finishing just outside the places. If so, you can simply add more places to your each way bet and stand a better chance of seeing a return from your bet. Alternatively, if you think your horse has a good chance of either winning or finishing in the first one or two places, you can choose to remove one or more places from your bet, resulting in the odds of your bet increasing.
Before you can place a bet using Each Way Edge, you need to open a Betfair account. You can do that by clicking the button below. It takes just 2 minutes to register and you’ll also get the Betfair sign-up bonus. Then once you’ve logged in you can come back and follow the rest of the guide.

OK, now let’s look at how Each Way Edge works. Log into your account and make sure you’re using the Sportsbook and not the exchange.
Each Way Edge applies to any UK or Irish horse race. So, let’s choose one at random – the 13:10 at Lingfield.
Let’s say that you want to place an each way bet on Revel, the third favourite in this race. Click the price next to the horse you want to bet on, as indicated by the red arrow in the example below.
This adds the selection to your betslip.
Because this is a UK horse race, the betslip shows you that Each Way Edge is available on this market.
You can see that Revel is priced at 3/1 to win the race. The standard each way terms for this race is 1/5 odds for the first 3 places. However, you can change the number of places by using the Each Way Edge feature by clicking on the + or – buttons, as indicated by the red arrow. in the image.
So, let’s say you’re not completely confident that Revel will finish in the top 3. But you’re fairly sure it will come at least in the top 4. No problem. You simply need to click the + button.
Doing this will change the number of places being paid. Let’s give it a try and see what happens…
So, you’ve now added an extra place to your each way bet by using Each Way Edge and so the place part of your bet will win if your horse finishes 1st – 4th rather than just 1st – 3rd. Th place 1/5 odds stays the same, however, the odds of your bet have reduced to 13/5 to compensate for the security of an extra place.
Here is a summary of our bet before and after adding an extra place using Each Way Edge.
Standard bet
Extra place bet using Each Way Edge
At this stage you haven’t committed to placing the bet yet. Therefore if you’re not happy, you can still change it back or adjust your stake.
Of course, you could also have chosen to reduce the number of places to 2, and got higher odds as a result. However, for this example we’ll leave your bet as it is. You’re backing Revel at 13/5 each way, and getting paid 4 places instead of 3.
Once your bet is placed you can watch the race live if you like using Betfair Live Streaming. But for now, we’ll just take a look at the result.
As it happens, Revel finished 4th. So it’s a good job you used Each Way Edge! Thanks to adding that extra place to your bet, you now get a return on the each way part. However, if you’d placed this bet with another bookmaker which doesn’t offer Each Way Edge, you’d have got nothing!
This demonstrates just how useful Betfair’s Each Way Edge is and what a huge difference it can make to your betting.
To summarise, Each Way Edge gives you more control over your each way bets by allowing you to edit how many places your bet will pay out on. If you add places, the overall odds of your bet will be reduced to compensate for the increased chances of winning and if you shorten the number of places, the odds of your bet will be increased.
Each Way Edge is a great feature from Betfair and it’s good to see a bookmaker being innovative and developing features which gives punters more choice and control with their betting.
