Young Stars To Watch In The 2022 World Cup

The FIFA World Cup is here again. It is scheduled to be held in less than a month with the tournament set to begin in November. Winning the quadrennial competition is noted to be the pinnacle of footballing success at an international level. It has also seen the growth of numerous young stars.

With football’s most famous competition just a few months away, a few young players are set to take center stage. We take a look at some of the youngsters to look out for as the tournament starts

Giorgi Mamardashvili, Georgia

Mamardashvili has stood between the sticks for 18 La Liga matches, keeping eight clean sheets. Furthermore, he recorded 560 minutes without conceding. 

The string of good performances put him in two La Liga teams of the week. He also received the King of the Match awards on three separate occasions. He is expected to be in goal for his country Georgia at the World Cup. Ansu Fati, Spain

Since his debut in 2019, he has become one of the best Spanish talents in world football. Ansu Fati has scored 15 goals and made three assists in 40 La Liga games. 

Last season, the Spain international was out for nine long months due to an injury. He had to rehabilitate a torn meniscus in his left knee. With the distinctive experience of Barcelona’s high-octane football, he has honed his craft to establish himself as a deadly finisher. 

Yéremy Pino, Spain

He became the youngest Spanish player to start a major European final, aged 18 years and 218 days when Villarreal reached the finals of the Europa League. Jamal Musiala, Germany

At 19 years, Musiala already plays for the German National team. He currently has up to 15 appearances for them. In all likelihood, Musiala would be participating in the upcoming FIFA World Cup under Hansi Flick.

In terms of his club career, Jamal Musiala has taken over the responsibilities of carrying out Bayern‘s offensive department. Already having 63 senior appearances for the Bavarians, he has been a regular starter in Julian Nagelsmann’s squad. 

Vinicius Junior, Brazil

Certainly already a Los Blanche star, Vinicius Junior is one to also keep an eye out for in Qatar. He already won the Champions League with Real Madrid in the 2021/2022 Champions League.

He scored 22 goals in 52 appearances in all competitions for his club season and the lively winger could well be the man to lead Brazil to a record sixth World Cup title.

Jude Bellingham, England

England is arguably unparalleled when it comes to squad depth. It means Gareth Southgate is not opposed to chopping and changing personnel, but there could be a fair few complaints if Jude Bellingham is not heavily involved in his team’s Qatar campaign.

Consistently linked with moves to the Premier League, Bellingham is thriving in the Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. He was once their youngest-ever goalscorer, and can contribute plenty to both defense and attack. Aurelien Tchouameni, France

Champions League winners Real Madrid acted quickly to sign Monaco midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni for €80 million this summer and the 22-year-old could well be the heartbeat of defending champions France in Qatar.

An industrious box-to-box player, Tchouameni should be comfortable playing alongside admirer Paul Pogba in what could be one of the most formidable midfielders in the tournament.

Karim Adeyemi, Germany

A key issue that has been plaguing Germany since they lifted the World Cup trophy in 2014 has been the absence of a star forward following Miroslav Klose’s retirement.

Having already been snapped up by Borussia Dortmund as Erling Haaland’s replacement, Adeyemi fired 23 goals in all competitions for Salzburg last season. He is among the thriving players to keep an eye on and is more than capable of spearheading Hansi Flick’s side to glory.

Pedri, Spain

The Golden boy award winner of 2021 has been an indispensable member of Spain and Barcelona even though he is only 19. His calmness with the ball is one of the best in the world, similar to the great Andreas Iniesta. There is a big expectation tag attached to Pedri’s name, as well as the extra baggage of leading the Spanish national team back to its glory days

Alphonso Davies, Canada

He’s the kid from Edmonton. The Canadian is one of the best fullbacks in the world and you can attribute most of that to his insane pace and dribbling skills.

Since arriving at Bayern Munich in 2019, the left-back has won every trophy possible. And he did that all in one season. At 21 and after cruising through every opposition with Bayern, Phonzy helped lead Canada to its first World Cup qualification since 1986
