What is the IPL?

The Indian Premier League is India’s premier Twenty20 cricket competition and is played across March, April and May each year. 2020 has been slightly different given lockdown and was played in the latter stages of the year.

It sees eight teams go head-to-head in a league format before the playoffs and a final to crown one winner.

The game is played with each side having 20 overs to bat each, with the aim of the game to simply score more runs than the opposition. If the game is a tie, a super over is played to determine a winner.
