Former Prime Minister and soon-to-be former MP Boris Johnson relishes the limelight and it is no surprise that speculation about his future includes media appearances. Articulate, charismatic and never shy to play the buffoon when it suits him, it is little wonder that bookmaker William Hill is now offering odds that Boris will be a participant on some of TV’s biggest hit shows. William Hill considers Boris “a strong contender” to enter the jungle in I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!. With odds of 6/4, he is one of the bookie’s favourites to join the ITV show, following in the footsteps of disgraced Health Secretary Matt Hancock whose appearance in the Australian jungle last year proved highly controversial. Odds are also on offer for Boris to appear in the 2023 versions of Strictly Come Dancing at 6/1 and Dancing On Ice at 10/1.
Boris has pressing reasons to develop new income streams, given that his wife Carrie is now expecting another child, their third in only three years. The couple purchased a £3.8 million moated house in Oxfordshire earlier this year and those electricity bills will be huge, with nine bedrooms, and six reception rooms to heat! And they are said to be house hunting in London as well.
With a political comeback highly unlikely in the short term, the former Prime Minister has been actively bolstering his bank balance with an estimated £5 million already generated on the international speaking circuit. His average fee is an astonishing £250,000 and he has delivered speeches in countries such as India, Singapore, and the United States.
Boris is also said to have received an advance of some £500,000 for his Downing Street memoirs which are due to be published before the next General Election. And of course, he is a notable journalist and he may well return to his previous role writing for The Daily Telegraph newspaper, which will provide him with yet more income but also a platform by which he can seek to influence others.
After the ignominy of Partygate and the subsequent collapse in support for his beleaguered leadership, Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister. But, in his final speech to the House of Commons, he was positive about his return with a rallying call of “Hasta la vista, baby”. It remains to be seen whether Boris will return to Parliament, let alone regain the position of Prime Minister, but the British public would be highly entertained at the prospect of Boris Johnson munching disgusting critters or landing on his bottom whilst trying to waltz on the ice. But just one plea – no sequined shirt open at the waist for Strictly…please.
