All eyes were on Lingfield racecourse on Tuesday afternoon as spectators witnessed not one, but two 100/1+ underdogs winning.
To add to the excitement, the racing gods smiled upon a fortunate William Hill punter who, against all odds, clinched a monumental £77,215.80 payout from just a £3 Lucky 15 bet. However, a distance of just two lengths was the difference in the punter receiving the already hefty amount from a whopping half a million pounds.

Ask Her Out 150/1 Winner
The 12:10pm race at Lingfield was the first to spring a surprise, where Lingfield racegoers witnessed the debut of Ask Her Out. Trained by Richard Rowe and guided to victory by jockey Tabitha Worsley, the 5-year-old mare defied all expectations, clinching a breath-taking win by a neck. With no past track record, it took a brave punter to part with their money on her to win.
Theyseekhimthere 125/1 Winner
100+/1 winners don’t happen very often and to see two come in on the same day, nevermind the same racecourse is extremely rare. However, in the fourth race of the day at 1:55pm, the Warren Greatrex team produced a similar feat with Theyseekhimthere.
At huge odds of 125/1, the 5-year-old, previously seen trailing by 33 lengths at Wetherby, clinched another outsider win by the narrowest of margins.
Potential £594,562.98 Payout
Remarkably, one William Hill punter had backed both of these horses in a Lucky 15 bet which had the potential to return over half a million pounds!
A Lucky 15 is a type of bet which consists of 15 bets from 4 selections – 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold. They opted to place a 20p bet on the Lucky 15 with a total stake of £3.
The odds of landing the two outsiders was 19,025/1, but there were two other runners included in the bet.
Celtic Art (SP 18/1) was running in the 12:45 race and finished 1/2 length ahead of Zambezi Fix to land a third winner. Luck really was on the side of the punter with a treble on the three being priced at odds of 361,494/1.
However, it was Mister Who, the shortest priced selection of the four by some margin at 5/1, who failed to land the full house.
Mister Who finished an agonising 2nd, 2 lengths behind Oxygen, in the 13:20 and as the punter opted for a straight win Lucky 15 rather than each way, this selection was marked as a loss.
Total Returns: £77,215.80
Despite the heartache of not landing the full payout, the punter was due to collect a staggering £77,215.80 from their £3 bet.
Lee Phelps from William Hill commented on the lucky punters win:
“One of our customers in Manchester must be delighted that it’s the jumps season, having correctly predicted three winners at Lingfield in a remarkable Lucky 15.
“The 150-1 shot Ask Her Out set the bet up nicely, followed by Celtic Art winning at 18-1, Mister Who placing at 5-1 and 125-1 shot Theyseekhimthere winning by a neck. The ridiculous bet has netted them £77,215.80 and it’s certainly been a Tuesday they won’t forget.”
