Norwegian Government Amends Regulations for Bingo

Norway’s government has recently introduced crucial amendments to the country’s gambling regulations, aiming to create a more responsible framework for bingo halls and electronic bingo games. The new regulations will be implemented in two phases over 2025. Starting January 1, 2025, game suppliers will be required to register to provide content to bingo halls across the country. This means that only certified suppliers can offer games to the public. Then, from September 1, 2025, bingo hall operators will be required to register their venues, and customers will be allowed to set loss limits for their play. 

Culture and Equality Minister, Lubna Jaffery claimed that the absence of loss limits in these games had caused issues for players which is why these frameworks are now being introduced to ensure responsible gambling practices. The amendments came after a comprehensive consultation process that garnered over 500 responses from various stakeholders. While the government initially hoped to implement the changes sooner, it chose to extend the timeline to address the practical challenges identified by industry associations.
