The extraordinary success of Liverpool this season, with 24 wins and 1 draw so far, has left fans salivating at the prospect of an unbeaten season at the top of the Premier League. Thirteen matches remain to be played by the Reds but, with a commanding lead of 22 points over Manchester City, surely Jurgen Klopp’s side will be able to celebrate winning the league well before the final match, against Newcastle on 17 May?
Such is the commanding nature of Liverpool’s performance that bookmakers are offering odds that the Reds will go unbeaten all season. Only three bookies are in the market with Unibet and VBet offering odds of 5/2 but Skybet offers the best deal for punters, with odds of 7/2.
The last time Liverpool lifted England’s top Trophy (before it was called the Premier League) was at the end of the 1989/90 season under Kenny Dalglish. They came so close to breaking their duck last season, achieving a whopping 97 points and only losing one match all season, but were pipped at the post by Manchester City with 98 points. So winning the`Premier League this time round will be all the sweeter for the team, supporters and American owners Fenway Sports Group.
No wonder fans are excited at the spectacular performance of their stellar team, of whom four – captain Jordan Henderson, Sadio Mane, Virgil Van Dijk (last year’s winner) and Mo Salah – are in contention to be voted Player of the Year by PFA members later this year. These talented players have amassed 73 points so far and it is probable that Liverpool will end the season with 100 points or more. The only time this has happened before was in 2017/2018 when Manchester City ended the season with 100 points.
LIverpool are also still actively in the hunt for the Champions League title. They won last year, defeating Tottenham Hotspur 2-0 in the final, but Manchester City are favourites to win this time round, with odds of 17/4 from bookmaker Unibet. Liverpool are second favourites with odds of 9/2 from Ladbrokes.
With only three months left of the 2019/20 season, manager Jurgen Klopp and his team will now be actively planning to maintain the momentum of Liverpool into the next season, taking into account international fixtures – most particularly the full schedule of Egyptian star Mo Salah, and the potential need to replace Lallala, Shaqiri and Lovren. No manager can rest on his laurels and Klopp, one of the best football managers in the world, shows no signs of slowing his pace; rather, he aims to continue Liverpool’s dominance into the future.
