Half Time / Full Time, also referred to as HT/FT is a popular football bet which can return high odds and high returns on winning bets.
In this article, we’ll be taking a look at Half Time / Full Time bets and covering the following topics:
With Half Time / Full Time bets, you are predicting the result of the game at half time as well as the result of the game at full time. The correct score doesn’t matter but just the match result at HT & FT ie. Which team will be winning or whether the match will be a draw.
The possible combinations of Half Time / Full Time bets which you can bet on are as follows:
The odds for each selection will vary depending on the teams playing each other. However, full turnarounds such as Home HT / Away FT & Away HT / Home FT usually produce the highest odds as they are the least likely to happen.
Let’s take a look at HT/FT stats for the Premier League from a few seasons ago:
Half time result | Full time result | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Home | Home | 27.79% |
Away | Away | 16.74% |
Draw | Draw | 15.89% |
Draw | Home | 15.42% |
Draw | Away | 11.53% |
Home | Draw | 4.63% |
Away | Draw | 4% |
Away | Home | 2.16% |
Home | Away | 1.84% |
As you can see, the home side to be winning at half time and also at full time is the most likely outcome whereas one team to be winning at half time and the other at full time are the least likely outcomes.
Now let’s take a look at a few other stats from the same season in the Premier League.
The below table shows the probability of the full time result when the home team is leading at half time.
Half Time Result | Full Time Result | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Home | Home | 81.11% |
Home | Draw | 13.52% |
Home | Away | 5.3% |
This table shows the probability of the full time result when the away team is leading at half time.
Half Time Result | Full Time Result | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Away | Home | 9.43% |
Away | Draw | 17.47% |
Away | Away | 73.10% |
And this table shows the probability of the full time result when the score is even at half time.
Half Time Result | Full Time Result | Percentage |
---|---|---|
Draw | Home | 36% |
Draw | Draw | 37.1% |
Draw | Away | 26.9% |
All of the above stats show us that if a team is winning at half time, the most likely result is for them to be winning at full time, followed by the draw and finally the opposing team.
It also shows us that if the match is a draw at half time, the most likely result is a draw, followed by the home team winning and finally the away team winning. However, these probabilities are a lot closer than when either team is winning at half time.
This really depends on the teams playing. If the home side is the clear favourite and is capable of scoring plenty of goals, then a Home HT / Home FT would seem sensible. For example, England vs Iran predictions are for England to win comfortably. Therefore England / England may seem like the logical bet to place.
If a defensive team is playing an attacking team, some punters choose to either back a draw or the defensive team to be winning at HT and then the attacking team at full time. This is because the attacking team is more capable of making a comeback whereas if the defensive team is down at half time, they may not have the attacking force to get back in the game. These bets usually provide relatively high odds which makes them more attractive.
There are other factors you should take into consideration when choosing a HT/FT combination such as any missing players. For example, the absence of a star striker may mean that a team will struggle up front whereas an absent key defender may mean that they will concede more goals.
If you’re unsure which HT/FT bet to place, it may be best to look at other betting markets. Double chance bets can be a good option if you’re not 100% confident on a match winner.

If you are looking for the very best odds for your HT/FT bets, you can often find them on betting exchanges. It’s not uncommon to be able to get odds of 50/1+ for a complete turnaround from HT to FT which is generally a lot higher than you will be offered on bookmaker websites.
Half Time / Full Time bets can be a good choice if you do your research into the teams playing. Some combinations can be offered at high odds of over 50/1 but based on statistics, they have a relatively low chance of coming in. However, it is possible to increase your chances of winning by looking at factors such as previous results, trends and lineups.
