The New York Lotto is played by millions of people every week. When buying a standard ticket, the jackpot starts at $2 million but often rises to well above that with the largest jackpot to date being a whopping $65 million.
However, in this guide, we’ll be showing you how to play the New York Lotto at online bookies which works slightly differently as you are not actually buying a ticket for the draw and instead are simply betting on which numbers will be drawn at fixed odds.

The bookies above all accept bets on the New York Lottery. These bookies also allow you to bet on other lotteries such as the Irish Lotto, 49s and many more.
The odds for New York Lotto bets may vary between bookies so it may be a good idea to bet with the bookie offering the highest odds for the type of bet you wish to place.
We now know where we can place bets on the NY Lotto but how does it work and how much can you win?
In the New York Lottery, there are 59 numbers of which 6 plus a bonus ball are drawn. Players who buy a ticket, select seven numbers and they win a prize if they match three or more numbers. However, players who bet on the New York Lottery at bookmakers, don’t have to select seven numbers and can bet on 1, 2, 3, 4 or 5 of their numbers featuring in the draw.
For example, if you were to select just one number, say number 7, your bet would win if the 7 ball was drawn. If you were to select two numbers, say 7 and 23, your bet would win if both of those numbers were drawn.
So, when betting on the New York Lotto at bookies, you select 1 to 5 numbers which you hope will be drawn.
You have the option to place your bet with or without the bonus ball. If you are betting with the bonus ball, the odds of your bet will be lower. This is because you have an additional chance of your number being drawn.
As mentioned earlier, bookies offer fixed odds on each bet on the New Yorkt Lotto and so you will know how much you will win should your numbers be drawn.
The odds of each bet may vary between bookmakers but we have given the odds which some of the best bookies for the New York Lotto were offering at the time of writing below.
Matching Numbers | 6 Number Draw Odds | 7 Number Draw Odds |
---|---|---|
1 | 8/1 | 7/1 |
2 | 100/1 | 70/1 |
3 | 1,300/1 | 700/1 |
4 | 25,000/1 | 10,000/1 |
5 | 250,000/1 | 100,000/1 |
Bookies only allow you to bet on up to 5 numbers. Most likely because the payout for matching 5 correct numbers is around 250,000/1 and so the odds of matching 6 correct numbers is in the millions and could bankrupt a bookie given that it is them who are paying out on winning bets and not the lottery company.
There are a few different types of bets which you can place on the New York Lotto when betting at bookies which we have listed below.
Straight Bet: This is when you simply select 1 to 5 numbers and if all of those numbers are drawn, your bet wins.
Bonus Ball: You bet on which of the 59 numbers the bonus ball will be.
Multiples: With multiple or combination bets, you can select up to 5 numbers and place multiple bets with different combinations of those numbers. Examples would be 3 singles, 3 x doubles and 1 x treble bet from 3 numbers or a Lucky 15 from 4 numbers.
Total Value: You bet on the total value of the 6 or 7 balls which are drawn. For example, if you bet on the total value being 130-150 and the balls drawn were 10, 15, 20, 25, 35 & 40, your bet would win as the numbers total 145.
The New York Lottery takes place twice a week on Wednesday’s and Saturday’s. The draw is at 23.21 ET in New York and so for UK players, the draw will be at 5:21am the following day (Thursday’s & Sunday’s).
