Golf is a massive worldwide sport, and it’s not just about the Majors. There are tournaments every week throughout the year, which means plenty of betting opportunities. So it’s no wonder so many people make a profit betting on golf.
But finding the best golf bookies isn’t always straightforward. The fact is, not all of the major online bookmakers do a good job when it comes to their golf markets. We realise that punters need to know where to go to get the best odds and the best offers. So today we’ll take a look at the best bookies for golf betting.
It’s always good to get special offers and some free bets when you sign up with a bookie. However, to make a long term profit, you also need to make sure that you’re getting the best odds.
This year, the Which Bookie team conducted an independent test of golf betting odds. We analysed a variety of markets on both PGA Tour and European Tour events. Our aim was to find out which golf bookies offer the best odds on a consistent basis. The results are as follows:

William Hill were a very close third. They consistently had better odds than most other golf bookies, especially in the 2-Ball and 3-Ball markets. With plenty of golf betting offers available, they are always a good option for golf betting.

Therefore our advice is this: If you bet on golf regularly, you should have an account with all three of these bookies. That way, you can always make sure you get the best odds on every bet you place.
When it comes to special offers, many online bookmakers tend to concentrate on football betting or horse racing betting. But there are still a few good golf betting offers around if you know where to look. These offers are generally available for major gold tournaments such as the Ryder Cup, British Open, the Masters, US PGA and many others.
Money back offers are a common golf offer and often available at Virgin Bet. A typical money back golf offer would be money back on outright singles bets if your player loses in a playoff. The offers can apply to selected tournaments and are usually available for are major golf events.
Anybody who bets on golf regularly will appreciate that this is a very handy offer. If this had been available 10 years ago, it would have saved us a great deal of money and anguish over the years. So save yourself the heartache of a narrow miss and get a VirginBet account sooner rather than later!
Betfred are a good choice for many sports, so it won’t surprise you to learn they are one of the best golf bookies as well. In particular, Betfred are the one bookmaker that often pays extra places on golf events. So if you bet each way, this is the account you need.
Betfred regularly pay 7 or 8 places each way on outright tournament winner bets on golf with most other bookies only paying 5. That’s the difference between a loss and a nice profit – every single week. Can you really afford to be throwing those winnings away?
Due to the large size of the field in the majority of golf tournaments, it’s common for outsiders at big odds to finish in the top places and even win tournaments. WhichBookie’s golf betting tips have often come in at huge prices. Ben Curtis is one example of an outsider winning a major tournament when he claimed the 2003 British Open title at odds of 500/1!
There are several betting markets available on golf which gives punters an excellent choice when betting on any major tournament. Some common golf betting markets include:
Tournament Winner: Bet on the player to win the tournament. As well as the outright winner, you can also bet each way on players. Each way terms differ between bookies and between tournaments but an example would be the each way part of your bet would win if your selected player finishes in the top 6 places.
Top Player From A Country: Many bookies allow customers to bet on the top player from different countries. For example, you could bet on which British player will finish highest. American, Irish and European player markets are also often available.
Match Betting: Players are usually coupled up when competing in a tournament and you can often bet on which of the two players will win when competition against each other.
To Finish In The Top X Places: If you think a player stands a good chance of finishing in one of the top places but not confident of them winning the tournament, you can bet on them finishing in the top 5, 6 or other places which the bookie offers. This is an attractive bet when betting on other players than the clear favourite who is likely to win.
Hole In One: Betting on a hole in one to be made throughout the tournament is an exciting bet. Due to the unlikeliness of a hole in one occurring, you’re not able to bet on individual players but rather any player scoring a hole in one.
Each Way Bet Golf: You can also place each way bets on golf and given that there are usually dozens of players that enter a tournament, they are often very popular bets.
With each way golf bets, you are placing two bets in one. Half of your stake will go on the player you have backed to win the tournament and the other half will go on to finish in one of the place positions which is set by the bookie.
Golf tournaments often take place over several days which makes it a great sport to bet on in-play. With most sports which are popular choices for in-play betting such as football and tennis, the pace is generally quite fast which makes placing a bet difficult at times due to the odds fluctuating. However, with golf, betting markets are usually quite stable as it can take several minutes for players to walk to their ball or the next hole to take their next shot.
Betting in-play on golf successfully is helped if you have an in-depth knowledge of the sport, players and holes on the course. For example, a bet on a player may be best left for a little while if they are approaching a difficult hole. Similarly, if a player is approaching a hole which they have performed well on in the past, a bet at this time may be a wise choice.
There are many in-play betting opportunities to be had on golf. If you are watching the tournament, you will have a good idea of how players are performing and if you see value in their in-play odds. Leaders after the first round will likely have their odds shortened and there can often be value in players beneath them whose odds have drifted but show promise in their performance.
Despite many bookmakers offering live streams of various sports, golf generally isn’t included. However, many major tournaments are available on certain TV channels allowing you to watch the event and bet using your PC or mobile device.
Other sports such as football, horse racing, snooker, tennis, darts and many more are available to stream and you can find a full list of upcoming events which you can watch directly through your online bookmaker account on our live sports streaming page.
As there are so many players competing in golf tournaments, odds for these players can vary between bookmakers. This is especially true for outsiders on the tournament winner markets and so if you are looking to back one of these players, it is worth comparing the odds of several bookies to see which one is offering the best odds.
There are many reputable bookmakers online which we would recommend but our top recommendation is Bet365. Bet365 offer an excellent all-round betting service and are often found to be offering competitive odds compared to other top bookies. Customers can also take advantage of a range of betting offers and a comprehensive live streaming schedule for many sports.
