Brighton Tips

Brighton Racecourse is located on Whitehawk Hill, on the edge of the South Downs and around a mile from the centre of Brighton in the county of Sussex.

The racecourse is owned by the Arena Racing Company which owns and operates 15 other racecourses in Great Britain, including Fontwell Park, Uttoxeter, Doncaster and several others.

The location of the racecourse being close to a popular sunny seaside destination means that it attracts big crowds from both the local area and across the country.

Along with racing, the course also hosts weddings, exhibitions, antique fairs, concerts and more.

Brighton Racecourse

Brighton Racecourse is somewhat unique in that is is one of just two courses in the UK that doesn’t form a full circuit with having a horseshoe shape. The other being Epsom Racecourse.

The course is left-handed and one and a half miles in length with a finishing straight of around four furlongs that has a steep decline followed by a climb to the post.

Brighton used to host hurdle races where, according to legend, hurdle racing was invented by King George IV. The course also used to be half a mile longer which meant that it could accommodate races of up to four miles compared to the maximum distance of one and a half mile races it hosts today.

Brighton hosted meetings on 21 days in 2022.

August is the biggest month at Brighton Racecourse due to the Brighton Festival taking place. The festival takes place across three days, starting on the first Thursday in August, and attracts in excess of 15,000 each day. Along with three exciting days of racing, racegoers enjoy live entertainment, drinks and an upbeat atmosphere. The main race of the festival is the Brighton Mile Challenge Trophy Handicap.
