Goodwood Racecourse is located just north of Chichester in West Sussex and is host to one of the highlights of the British flat racing calendar, Glorious Goodwood, which takes place in late July/early August.

The racecourse is part of the Goodwood Hall estate which also features a cricket course, two golf courses, an aerodrome, a racing circuit and the headquarters for Rolls Royce.

It’s one of the most prestigious courses in the country that hosts 19 days of flat racing every year.

Goodwood Racecourse

Goodwood Racecourse is complex and rather unusual in shape. It is a right-handed course that features two bends and is considered quite a sharp track.

The “Stewards’ Cup Course” is a straight six furlongs that features an uphill climb followed by a downhill straight to the finish. The five-furlong course at Goodwood is considered to be one of the fastest in the world.

Glorious Goodwood, also known as the Qatar Goodwood Festival, is one of the highlights of the British Flat racing season. The five-day festival takes place in July/August against the beautiful backdrop of the Sussex countryside.

Day one of the festival gets underway with the historic Goodwood Cup followed by the Qatar Sussex Stakes on day two. Ladies’ Day brings us the Magnolia Cup and four Group races take place on the Friday with the headline race being the King George Qatar Stakes. The final day of the festival features the Unibet Stewards’ Cup.

Betting Tips For Goodwood Races

• Right-handed in the main, 2m starts in the home straight and 2m4f on the turn in with a left-hand bend to start with. Undulating course including in the straight with tight bends, horses often meet trouble in running.
• Draw bias varies on the straight course
• Low draw preferred on the round course
• Plenty of Group races through the year including Group 1’s – Goodwood Cup, Sussex Stakes and Nassau Stakes at the Glorious meeting. Also big handicaps over 1m and 6f at the meeting.
