Newsboy, AKA David Yates, is a popular horse racing tipster who provides his tips, thoughts and analysis to readers of the Daily Mirror. He’s been known as ‘Newsboy’ since joining the British tabloid newspaper in May 2002 but his experience with horse racing dates much further back with stints with Timeform, the Racing Post, At The Races, and many other notable brands in the industry.

Born in Bedford in 1968, Newsboy, whose real name is Dave Yates, is a horse racing analyst and tipster who works for the Daily Mirror. He’s a familiar face on racing TV and commentary with having worked with the likes of ITV Racing, Racing UK, Channel 4’s Morning Line and At The Races as well as working freelance on occasions.
Dave’s experience with horses and the betting industry dates back to when he was just 18 years of age having landed his first job in the local bookies. He learned much about horse racing in the job that followed which was with Timeform in September 1990. Three years later, Dave left Timeform to follow his passion for horseracing journalism and later worked at The Independent and for the Press Association.
