Just the one 1-star * Daily Value bet for Sunday, and it comes in the feature race of the day – the Star Sports National Spirit Hurdle at Fontwell Park at 3.00. A prestigious and extremely valuable event, it has attracted a small but select field of intermediate distance specialists.
Early favourite Salver has to turn around a ½ length deficit with Nemean Lion from their Windsor meeting, and on ground that will be similar to what it was on Berkshire Winter Millions weekend, it would be a surprise if Blueking D’Oroux were to get closer to those two than he did at Windsor, where he was just over 4 lengths back in 3rd.
However, there might be a party-pooper here as the 9/1 each-way about Sam Thomas’ Steel Ally with Bet365 or William Hill looks an extremely attractive proposition.
Steel Ally had been steadily progressive over 2m and on fairly decent ground, but when encountering a 2m3f trip on soft ground (exactly the same distance and likely ground as the National Spirit will be) at Haydock Park on Betfair Chase day, he produced a clear career best.
Always in a lovely rhythm over that trip on the front end, he may have to work early to nip ahead of the galloping Salver, who will likely be ridden forward also. But I’d be pretty confident that Fontwell Park will suit the slightly nippier, more athletic Steel Ally as opposed to the slightly clumsier type Salver.
Sam Thomas had an excellent day on Saturday, and clearly has his string in excellent condition, and it’s rare that he wouldn’t have a valuable target firmly in the crosshairs for one of his select stable. Steel Ally should really only be a point or two (if that) behind the likes of Salver and Nemean Lion. So, the 9/1 looks a gift.

We don’t provide tips for every race televised on ITV but as we cover all of the major racing festivals, many of our tips apply to ITV races and our tipsters will often provide an in depth preview of each day of festivals such as Cheltenham, Royal Ascot, Good wood and Galway.
Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. This is recommended as the odds can fluctuate and move dramatically lower on certain selections once the value has been spotted !
For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
