By far the most interesting race of the day, on a day littered with ‘win only’ races across the afternoon jumps cards, is the Next Meeting @LeicesterRaces Sunday 1st December Handicap Hurdle at 3.40 at Leicester.
Early favourite Dominic’s Fault has been popular overnight, but comparisons with the 0-110 2m4f handicap hurdle he ran in at Carlisle 25 days ago and the 0-125 2m handicap hurdle on the same card, bear some potential valued fruit with the two horses who ran in that latter race.
The class bracket already suggests that the 2m race was a classier one, and that played out in how the two respective races were run. Basically, Wise Guy and Don Virginia ran the final circuit of the 2m race in a time between 5 and 6 seconds quicker than Dominic’s Fault did in his race.
Now, pace is always dependent on how fast the front-runners want to go, and in Dominic’s Fault’s race, they didn’t go quick at all and it meant that he came home 2 seconds quicker from the second last hurdle compared with Wise Guy and Don Virginia, but ultimately the comparison reflects very favourably on these two.
So, granted a well run 2m race on very similar ground today to what it was at Carlisle, I would be surprised if both Wise Guy and Don Virginia aren’t able to be seen to much better effect than Dominic’s Fault.
My hunch is that Dominic’s Fault will be better over further or on very testing ground, whereas today’s test will suit Wise Guy at 6/1 each-way with Bet365 and Don Virginia at 17/2 each-way with Unibet, both for 4 places.
Not only does this revealing time comparison back this up, but also the fact that Dominic’s Fault was benefitted by racing wide on the track.
Like may courses around the country, Carlisle have been using the flat course over hurdles, and the increased traffic/watering has meant the inside is much slower and more chewed up generally. Wise Guy and Don Virginia were hard to the inside in their race, and still ran quicker than Don Virginia, despite being on slower ground.
Of the others, Rumoursareflying is worthy of respect but might want good ground ideally and isn’t the most natural hurdler, and there are a number of long-absent horses returning. If there was one of those that could blow this race apart, it could be Ballybreeze.

We don’t provide tips for every race televised on ITV but as we cover all of the major racing festivals, many of our tips apply to ITV races and our tipsters will often provide an in depth preview of each day of festivals such as Cheltenham, Royal Ascot, Good wood and Galway.
Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
