Horse racing expert Will Smith has picked out a 13/2 EW 1-star * ante-post selection for the Betfair Cleeve Hurdle on Cheltenham's Trails Day on Saturday 25th January.
Leicester’s hurdle course takes a certain type of horse to thrive on and also needs careful jockeyship to guide a horse around there. Generally, that means one who churns their way through heavy ground and charts a path widest of all on the best ground.
A number of the main players in the Leicester Racecourse Ideal Self-Hire Wedding Venue Handicap Hurdle at 3.25 at Leicester have shown up well over the course and distance, but none have created the impression on his last two starts that Snapius has done.
Available at 11/2 each-way with William Hill or 888Sport, Snapius has taken a few runs for James Owen to find the key to him, but having shown glimmers of life in November, he burst into form here when a game runner-up to Hara Kiri in December of last year.
That piece of form has worked out well since and featured a very much in-form winner, and on the clock it was a run that compared very favourably to Tommie Gun and Trust House, who showed up well at the track 4 days after Snapius.
At Lingfield Park a month ago, Snapius then went on to prove his superiority over Trust House with a cosy win, despite perhaps racing on the worst of the ground. He’s clearly thriving and is just the type of horse that Owen will squeeze every drop out of, and it’s hard to see why both Trust House and Tommie Gun are available at shorter odds.
Achille Des Rocs probably wants further and better ground, while most of the other runners don’t make much appeal. Chief danger could be Copper Cove, but he is having his first run for nigh on 300 days and the market can be your guide with regard to his chance.
At 11/2 each-way with William Hill or 888Sport, Snapius is today’s 2-star ** Daily Value selection for WhichBookie as he should be favourite in my book.

We don’t provide tips for every race televised on ITV but as we cover all of the major racing festivals, many of our tips apply to ITV races and our tipsters will often provide an in depth preview of each day of festivals such as Cheltenham, Royal Ascot, Good wood and Galway.
Our racing tips are usually published in the morning but if you’d like to be notified when a new tip is posted, you can join our horse racing tips telegram group for free. This is recommended as the odds can fluctuate and move dramatically lower on certain selections once the value has been spotted !
For each tip that is published, we recommend a bookmaker to place the bet with. Of course, you can use any bookmaker that is offering odds on the specified race but there is a reason why we recommend bookies for certain bets. For example, if a tip is an Each Way selection, we may recommend a bookmaker offering Extra Places on the race. We also take odds into consideration and so if there aren’t any betting offers available on the race, we simply recommend the bookie offering the greatest odds. If you don’t have an account with the bookmaker we are suggesting to place the bet with and are interested in creating an account with them, be sure to check out our free bets page to find the latest welcome offer for that particular bookie.
