The final Triple Crown race of 2023 is creeping into sight, with the Belmont Stakes being staged on Saturday, June 10. Belmont Park in New York will play host to the most tactical of the three Grade 1s for horses aged three, with a total distance of 1 ½ miles covered.
This year’s race looks set to be a wide-open affair, with Preakness winner National Treasure and Kentucky Derby victor Mage both among the likely runners to be pointed toward the Belmont Stakes.

But, what are some of the best betting markets that you will be able to wager on the Belmont Stakes?
Typically, the Belmont Stakes attracts one of the smaller fields of the Triple Crown races, meaning that it should be easier to find the eventual winner of the race.
Betting on the win market is the most popular among bettors, as they will place their stake on the selection that they believe will win the Belmont Stakes. If your selection is correct, you will receive the returns, while the stake is lost if your horse fails to win the final Triple Crown race.
As we have mentioned previously, the Belmont Stakes field is among the smallest of the Triple Crown races, but place betting remains extremely popular if you have a sense that an outsider will run a big race.
To get returns from the place betting market, you must wager on a horse that will finish in the first two places. Show betting is also an option when wagering on the Belmont Stakes, but it isn’t as popular given that there is little value in making a selection to finish in the first three in a race with such few runners.
One of the most popular betting options for more experienced gamblers is the Exacta and Trifecta markets. To land an Exacta, you will need to correctly prediction the horses that will finish in first and second in the correct order.
Meanwhile, the Trifecta is slightly more challenging, as you will also need to find the runner that will finish the race in third. Bettors can cover more selections in these markets by placing a number of horses into a box. You will then get returns from the bet as long as at least two or three runners selected finish in the designated spots.
Another popular betting option for more experienced gamblers is the option to bet on the total distance in which the winner will win by. This is a testing market to get a winner, as extensive research must be carried out surrounding the potential speed angles in the race.
As well as correctly predicting the total distance that the winner will win by, you must also state the horse that you think will win the Belmont Stakes outright.
The final field for the Belmont Stakes will be determined on June 4, but it is expected that many of the top three-year-olds from across the United States will target the race this year. Bob Baffert’s Preakness winner National Treasure is among the likely runners, while stablemate Arabian Lion could also be among the leading contenders.
Todd Pletcher’s Breeders’ Cup Juvenile hero Forte was forced to bypass the Kentucky Derby, and his return has been teased for the Belmont Stakes. If Forte does run, he will be sent off as a clear favorite. Other talented runners that we have seen on the Triple Crown trail this season that could compete in New York, including Steve Asmussen’s Red Route One, and Pletcher’s Tapit Trice and Kingsbarns.
