England vs Republic of Ireland Prediction, Betting Tips & Preview
The upcoming UEFA Nations League clash between England and the Republic of Ireland at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, 17th November, at 17:00 promises to be…
Crystal Palace have been relegated from the top-flight on four occasions which is the third most of any club with only West Brom (5) and Norwich City (6) having been relegated more. Despite having remained as a Premier League club over the past 10 seasons, Crystal Palace have struggled to progress and have never finished a season above 10th place in the league.
Their list of honours in recent years are few and far between with perhaps the most notable being an FA Cup Final appearance in 2016 when they were defeated 2-1 by Manchester United in extra time.
Palace’s quest for improvement has lead to managerial changes over the years and with their current manager only contracted until the end of the season, it’s likely that we could see another new name in charge at Selhurst Park in the coming months.
It was announced on 19th February 2024 that Roy Hodgson would step down as manager of Crystal Palace Football Club.
Roy Hodgson is a former professional football player and current manager of Crystal Palace. He was born on August 9, 1947, in Croydon, England.
As a player, Hodgson played as a defender for a number of English and Swedish clubs, including Crystal Palace, Bristol City, and Halmstad. However, it is as a manager that he is best known.
Hodgson’s managerial career has spanned over four decades, and he has managed numerous clubs across Europe. Some of his most notable managerial roles include leading the Swiss national team to the knockout stages of the 1994 World Cup, managing Inter Milan, Liverpool, and West Bromwich Albion in the Premier League, and guiding Fulham to the UEFA Europa League final in 2010.
Hodgson has also managed the England national team, taking them to the quarter-finals of the 2012 European Championships and the last 16 of the 2014 World Cup. He has also managed the national teams of Switzerland, Finland, and the United Arab Emirates.
In 2021, Hodgson announced his retirement from management at the age of 74, having spent four years in charge of Crystal Palace in the Premier League. However, the following season Hodgson returned to football and was appointed manager of Watford after the Hornets sacked Claudio Ranieri.
Less than two months later, the former England boss make a shock return to Selhurst Park after Patrick Vieira became the next Premier League manager to leave. Hodgson’s contract is until the end of the 2022/23 season but it’s possible it could be extended if he is able to guide Palace to safety.
With Hodgson departing the club in February 2024, the search is already underway to find the next permanent manager of Crystal Palace.
The most likely candidates for the job are those who were considered for the role prior to Hodgson re-joining the club. Those names included ex-Crystal Palace captain Paddy McCarthy, former Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhuttl, Swiss manager Lucien Favre, who was in charge of Borussia Dortmund for two years, and Jesse Marsch who managed Leeds for less than a year before being sacked in February.
