Everton have never been relegated from the Premier League and have featured in the top-flight every season since it was created in 1992.
The club went through a good spell under the management of David Moyes and achieved an average league finish of 8.25 during his 12 seasons in charge. However, their league finishes have been less impressive in recent years which has lead to several changes in management.
With the clubs future uncertain, so to is that of any manager who takes the reins.
We’ll be looking at the odds for the next Everton manager and the possible candidates for the role.
Current Everton Manager
Everton parted ways with manager Sean Dyche after a tenure of nearly two years. The decision was announced on 9th January 2025, just hours before Everton’s FA Cup third-round match against Peterborough United.
Dyche, who took over from Frank Lampard in January 2023, initially succeeded in keeping Everton in the Premier League. However, the 2024-2025 season has been challenging, with the team securing only three wins in 19 league matches, leaving them 16th in the Premier League, a mere point above the relegation zone.
The club’s new owners, The Friedkin Group (TFG), who completed their takeover in December 2024, acted decisively following a series of poor performances. A particularly poor 1-0 loss to Bournemouth, where Everton failed to register a shot on target, highlighted the team’s struggles and contributed to the decision to relieve Dyche of his duties.
In the interim, under-18s head coach Leighton Baines and club captain Seamus Coleman have been appointed to oversee first-team affairs. The duo led the team to a 2-0 victory over Peterborough United in the FA Cup shortly after Dyche’s departure.
Looking ahead, Everton are reportedly considering former manager David Moyes as a potential successor. Moyes, who led the club from 2002 to 2013, is currently available after leaving West Ham United last season. His familiarity with the club and extensive Premier League experience make him a strong candidate for the role.
Who Will Be the Next Everton Manager?
Sean Dyche joined Everton in January 2023 on a two and a half year contract. However, Everton are battling it out towards the bottom of the league with several other teams this season and are far from safe.
Everton have failed to pull themselves away from the relegation zone which resulted in Sean Dyche joining the Sack Race early in the season.
We’ve listed the potential candidates to be the next Everton manager following the sacking of Sean Dyche.
